Department of Language Studies
As language evolves out of and develops the culture(s) where it is used, there are always ways of seeing the world implicit within it. Learning several languages provides greater opportunities for envisioning the world in new ways.
The Department of Language Studies conducts research and provides education in English, Finnish, French, the Nordic Languages/Swedish, Russian, Spanish, German, Sami and Linguistics. In addition to a wide range of single subject courses available at both basic and advanced levels, the department runs a number of educational programmes. The department also provides several beginner courses in Arabic, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Latin and modern Greek.
